The Power of Movement in Chess: A Reggio-Inspired Approach

Our mission

In Mind & Body Chess, children don’t just think about their next move—they feel it. Moving through chess strategies creates an awareness of how the body and mind work together, reinforcing self-regulation, patience, and focus. Chess itself is a practice in mindfulness, requiring players to be present, assess their choices, and think ahead—all skills that translate into everyday life.

Furthermore, movement reduces stress, improves concentration, and enhances emotional self-regulation, making it easier for children to approach challenges calmly. This connection between thoughtful movement and strategy-building fosters confidence in decision-making and self-discipline beyond the chessboard.

Our vision

Chess may be a one-on-one game, but learning and practicing it in a group setting cultivates collaboration, sportsmanship, and empathy. When children discuss moves, play in teams, or physically embody different pieces together, they develop a shared sense of learning and connection.

By moving together and engaging in cooperative chess exercises, children build social awareness, patience, and emotional intelligence—key components of empathy. They learn to celebrate wins with grace, handle losses with resilience, and support their peers in learning new skills.
